Indexing government scandals one at a time
The MP for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has accused Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of being deceptive to Ghanaians by promising to end unmerited single-sourcing of government contracts. Ablakwa stated on X that despite Dr. Bawumia’s promise to publish details of every government contract, a recent audit report revealed that 87% of cocoa road contracts in the current government were awarded through non-competitive processes.
Ablakwa also highlighted how a company with familial ties to Bawumia benefited from these contracts. He criticized Bawumia for previously criticizing former President John Dramani Mahama and then being caught benefitting from single-sourced contracts himself.
The controversy deepens as Resources Access Limited, a company with familial ties to Vice President Bawumia, is implicated in receiving two lucrative single-sourced cocoa road contracts on July 2, 2020. Owned by Abraham Bawumia, the Vice President's brother, and Aneta Kaminska Bawumia, the company allegedly secured contracts valued at a total of GH¢83.7 million.
