Indexing government scandals one at a time
Ghana has dropped four points in the latest ranking in the 2019 World Press Freedom Index as it moved from the rank of 23 to 27 from the previous year.
Besides, the country has also lost its status as Africa’s best ranked country in the World Press Freedom Index, compiled annually by Reporters Without Borders (RWB) which evaluates the state of journalism in 180 countries.
President of the Ghana Journalists Association, Affail Monney has expressed worry over the constant deterioration of press freedom in the country over the past few years.
According to him, the gruesome murder of Tiger Eye PI journalist Ahmed Suale, coupled with a litany of attacks launched on some media personalities have created an apparent state of insecurity for the practice of journalism in the country.
