Indexing government scandals one at a time
Ghana’s Embassy in Belgium has been directed to close all its four accounts with its bankers, the ING Bank latest by November 12, 2020.
The order from ING Bank means the Embassy has until the given date to close all four accounts and open new accounts in a different bank where all funds will subsequently be moved into. According to a report filed by investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni, the directive comes on the back of alleged financial malfeasance in the embassy.
According to insiders, the Ghanaian Ambassador to Belgium, Sena Siaw Boateng, had allegedly blown some €1.8 million to renovate an Embassy property which is valued at € 2 million. Also, she has reportedly spend in excess of € 700,000 to renovate the Ambassador’s residence.
A more sizzling twist to the saga is that one Edwin Boateng, a nephew to President Akufo Addo, may be on the radar of intelligence network for a supposed inexplicable movement of funds.
