Indexing government scandals one at a time
Government has announced it will launch the restoration of the monthly allowance for trainee nurses. The allowance which was cancelled by the Mahama administration in 2014 became a key element of the Akufo-Addo campaign igniting interest among nurses and parents.
A statement announcing the launch said “The ministry of health wishes to inform all student nurses, midwives, as well as any other category of students in all public health training institutions and the general public of the impending launch of the restoration of the nurse/midwife training allowance.
The Akufo-Addo government feels that simply paying nursing allowance without any fanfare would not do enough justice to the return of such a policy. The decision to have an occasion just to symbolize the restoration has been criticized as simply a frivolous move from the government by some sections of the public.
The Minister of Health, Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, defended the launch, asking why the people would expect the government to restore the allowance quietly.
