Indexing government scandals one at a time
Some of the dams built by government under the 1 village 1 dam initiative have dried up after just one week of harmattan.
Under the One Village One Dam flagship programme, the Ministry of Special Development Initiatives, Mrs Koomson, who is also the MP for Awutu Senya East, said the cost of the dams was on the average GH¢250,000.00. “This is a deal for villages and communities in the five Northern Regions and will serve them under all circumstances."
However, after only a week of harmattan, most of the dams built have dried up leaving its users in frustration.
A research conducted by the Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana has revealed that about ninety (90%) per cent of dams constructed under Ghana’s One-Village One-Dam initiative in the Upper East Region cannot be used for irrigation purposes.
The Research funded by OXFAM revealed that there was poor consultation with other government agencies including the District Assemblies during the planning phase of the initiative which resulted in the assemblies not effectively supervising the project.
